FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The following is also included in the information sent home with every student during the first week of school.

This page is meant to give you a full understanding of the financial responsibilities of chorus/musical theatre and how it benefits our students.  The uniforms have been and will remain the same for this school year and the next.   We have rental uniforms for $30 a year; however, they MUST BE RETURNED for us to continue our rental program.

    • FIRST YEAR GIRLS  who would like to purchase their chorus and musical techniques uniform: their bundled uniform cost of $106.95  is due September 15th.  This includes the dress, shoes, and earrings. The girls will wear these items for the next two or more years.  The due date is September 15 so we will have our uniforms in time by our performance dates.  If they outgrow their dress, they can “trade up” by exchanging their dress for a rental size that fits them better.

    • RETURNING GIRLS who already own their dress may need to replace any shoes ($25.95) that no longer fit or replace earrings ($13).  The due date is September 15 so we will have our uniforms in time by our performance dates.

    • RENTAL FEE   If you would like to “rent” a uniform, the rental fee is $30 for the school year and is based on availability and size.  The due date is September 15 so we will have your uniform together in time for our performance dates.  It must be returned at the end of the Spring Concert.   If you expect to be moving from Surfside mid-year, please speak to the director for special arrangements for its return.

    • FIRST YEAR BOYS UNIFORM:  We have a young men’s tux rental for $30.  If they would like to purchase one on their own, we use “Blacktie Formal Wear” on 23rd Street (ask for Gary).   Outside of each tuxedo, each young man will need to purchase on their own:  solid black dress shoes (plain black, no tennis shoes), solid black dress socks,  a form-fitted solid black undershirt, and a solid black long-sleeved/collared dress shirt.   Surfside will provide the ties and teach the boys how to tie them.  This is chosen so that the boys can also use these items for any family formal event.

    • EVERYBODYS’ FAIR SHARE or the PFC (Personal Financial Commitment) of $40 covers the cost of instructional materials and class tee-shirt. Due date is September 15 so we will have our materials in time for our classes.  (See below for further explanation).

IMPORTANT

No student will be excluded from chorus or musical techniques due to financial difficulties. To assist with these costs, we offer two fundraisers to assist students who need help raising these funds.  We expect our students to raise the funds and be active in these efforts.   Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have or if there is a hardship for a student who might need additional time/assistance in paying these fees. Requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

FAIR SHARE or the aka PERSONAL FINANCIAL COMMITMENT (PFC)

The fair share or the aka PFC is a commitment that every chorus family makes to support the chorus and musical techniques classes.  Please realize that the financial needs involved with school arts programs are not typically provided for by Bay County District Schools.  Enhanced quality of instruction is accomplished through a budget with expenses including, but not limited to, accompanist and choreographer fees, clinicians, music, group travel, concert recordings, MPA registration, classroom equipment, technology, and performances.   When equipment needs replacing, the teacher and the class are expected to raise the funds.   In an active middle school chorus program like ours, a typical year’s expenses can exceed $30,000.  With the addition of musical techniques classes in the last 4 years, we are getting closer to this mark.

This fee of $40 for each student may be fundraised, paid out of pocket, or a combination of both. **It is our goal to keep the cost of our PFC at an absolute minimum while still making sure that we are meeting the financial needs of the chorus and music techniques program.

OBLIGATIONS

Students who fail to pay for their by the deadline will have their fees converted to an obligation, which is the school’s official method of collecting overdue class fees. Fees are collected by teachers, but obligations are collected by the school accounts payable.

    • Obligations are paid to the front office or through the chorus and must be paid online only.   Link to Online Payment
    • While a student has an obligation on their account, they will be limited from certain privileges. For example, they will be unable to buy tickets to dances, PBS days, and special events for the school until the obligation is paid.
    • Uniforms, all borrowed musical, and athletic equipment are considered just like textbooks and lost library books.  If they are not turned in, a fee will have to be assessed to the student.  Obligations need to be settled prior to the end of the school year.
